Welcome to the Scouts - 10½ to 14 years

The scout section is for girls and boys aged 10½-14 who are looking for fun and adventure. Featuring a full programme of outdoor activities, camps and expeditions. Please drop us a quick message using the contact us tab.

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities including traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking; as well as a wider spectrum of adventurous activities from abseiling to kayaking. Participation rather than meeting set standards is the key approach and there are a number of challenges, awards and activity badges that Scouts can gain during their time in the section to recognise their achievements.

Costs

Matchborough Group sets termly subscriptions at £40 which (if possible) should be paid directly into the Group bank account, reducing the handling of cash and enabling the efficient running of the Group.

There are sometimes extra charges for special activities, camps and events. We try to keep our subs as low as possible so that anyone can come to Scouts. If you need help paying subs, please speak to your leader.

A uniform can be bought from Redditch Scout shop or from a local supplier. Details will be forwarded once you join the Group.

Badges and Uniform

Scouts wear a uniform during their weekly meetings and sometimes on trips away, depending on where they're going and what they're doing. Usually, this consists of a teal green shirt or blouse with their badges sewn on, which they pair with a scarf, known as a knecker.

The most important thing when you first arrive is wearing something that you feel natural and comfortable in.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking for helpers to support us on our group nights and events. Whether you are able to spare the odd night or can make a regular committment, we are keen to have a variety of helpers on board to offer a diverse program for our young people.
